Erskine Seminary through its Erskine Virtual Campus (EVC) seeks to bridge the gap in distance education that often separates students from each other and students from teachers. We do this by creating an online theological community of learners who learn from gifted professors and from one another. Our online classrooms offer a rich environment in which to learn, grow, think, connect, and pray. Our EVC staff is available to assist and support student learners by providing pedagogical and technological expertise with a helpful attitude. We invite you to join our community of faith as we explore God’s word together. |

“One of the most significant things that I learned about the use of EVC was its ability to adapt to various learning styles in general, but specifically the numerous adult-learning styles. The EVC concept of learning provided me with the opportunity to review and replay the recorded lectures and other course documents, therefore furthering my learning. This capability enhanced the learning environment for both the performance-based and knowledge-based curriculum presented over in EVC."

Erskine Seminary Professor Wins Course of the Year Award
 |
On Thursday, March 11 2010 Dr. Steve Lowe, Associate Dean for Distributed Education and Professor of Christian Education representing Erskine Theological Seminary received the ACCESS 2010 Course of the Year Award for his Doctor of Ministry online hybrid course Exploring the Missional Church. The award was given in Cincinnati, Ohio, the location of the 2010 national conference. Co-sponsor of the award is Christianity Today who gives the award to recognize excellence in Christian Distance Education course development. |
ACCESS is a national organization of member schools who offer Christian distance education courses and degree programs.
A hybrid course has both an on campus and an online component. The online portion of the course is designed to provide additional course resources, continue classroom conversations and discussions, and provide a place where students can interact with fellow students and the course instructor regarding course content, student assignments, and obtain additional information about the course subject matter not covered during class meetings.
The course Exploring the Missional Church is designed to help pastors think about the mission of the church by studying scripture, reading books about the missional church, hearing presentations from pastors who are leading missional churches, and making class presentations to other students about different topics related to the study of the missional church. A missional church is a church that seeks to carry out the mission of God through its ministries to the congregation, the community, and the world.
Dr. Lowe started the Erskine Virtual Campus (EVC) in 1998 and has seen online student enrollments continually expand. This spring semester 2010 was the first time that spring enrollments outpaced fall enrollments. Currently over 200 students participate in either online or hybrid courses offered by Erskine Seminary. Those interested in learning more about online seminary courses are invited to visit the seminary web site (www.erskine.edu/seminary) and click through to the EVC page. |
