On January 18, 2010, in cooperation with First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, a half-day Preacher's Conference will be held at the First Presbyterian Church.  Our speaker will be R. Kent Hughes, Senior Pastor Emeritus of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois.  Dr. Hughes is well known for his ministry as a pastor and preacher, and is the author of numerous books, among them the best-selling Disciplines of a Godly Man. He is also editor of the projected 50-volume Preaching the Word series, to which he has made numerous contributions, including Mark: Jesus, Servant and Savior, which received the E.C.P.A. Gold Medallion Book Award for best commentary in 1990.  Dr. Hughes will give two presentations on “A Preacher’s Heart” and “A Preacher’s Mind” beginning at 10:00 a.m.   There is no charge for this conference and a complimentary lunch will be provided afterwards.  Reservations for the lunch are required.  For more information, click on the link erskine.edu/seminary

February 4-5, 2010, in cooperation with Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah, the Institute for Reformed Worship will host a conference on “The Lord’s Supper in Reformed Faith and Worship.”  Dr. Hughes Oliphant Old will give three lectures dealing with Calvin and Knox on the doctrine and administration of the Lord’s Supper.  We will also have presentations from Dr. Terry Johnson and Ron Parrish from Independent Presbyterian Church.  Cost for the seminar is $75.  A special conference rate of $119 per night is available at the Hyatt Regency Savannah hotel, located in Savannah’s historic district.  The worship on the Lord’s Day, February 6, will include the administration of the Lord’s Supper around the old communion tables still in use at Independent Presbyterian Church.
