Savings. Since 90% of our student body commutes to this campus or to an off-campus location to attend class, by taking a course through EDEN, you eliminate the cost of gasoline, lodging, and food. According to a survey we took of Erskine students, the average student spends over $200 per semester in incidental expenses to attend class. While the cost of tuition to take an EDEN course is the same as our traditional courses, there are indirect cost savings through time, travel, and technology. The cost of books, as in our other courses, is in addition to the cost of tuition.
Easy Access. All of the materials you will need to take the course (except for textbooks) are located in the online classroom for each EDEN course. Most professors no longer keep course materials on reserve in the library because those same materials can now be housed electronically in our online classrooms.
Same great professors. The same people who teach our traditional curriculum courses also teach our EDEN courses. We do not outsource our distance education curriculum. You can be assured that the same quality you expect with a traditional Erskine Seminary course is what you'll receive with in EDEN. The faculty exercises the same curricular oversight of the EDEN courses as they do our regular lineup of course offerings.
Learner-friendly. The learning options given in some EDEN course allow you to choose course assignments that fit your learning style and preferences rather than being squeezed into a pre-set learning mold. Each syllabus provides step-by-step instructions for how to complete the course and maximize your learning. Hundreds of national research studies of DE students have found that they earn just as high a grade and learn just as much if not more than their traditional classroom counterparts. So, you will not lose anything academically by taking a course through the EDEN option.
Interactive and personal. One of the main objections to taking online courses, by those who have never taken them before, is that they don't want to miss the interaction and give-and-take of the traditional classroom environment. Within the online classroom you can have as much interaction or more through the interactive features in our EDEN courses.
What do you have to do to take an EDEN course? First, consult with your academic advisor to determine which courses offered in EDEN can be taken to fulfill degree requirements. Second, once it is determined that one or more of the EDEN courses will work for you, contact the Registrar's office to enroll for the course in a semester that is most convenient for you. Once you are officially registered through the Registrar’s Office a notification will be sent to the EDEN office which will trigger an email response that provides you with information about how to access your online course.
