Federal Stafford Loan Program

Erskine Theological Seminary participates in government loan programs to make funds available to students whose personal resources are not sufficient to pay for graduate studies. To qualify for a Federal Stafford Loan, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must submit a financial aid application and complete the FAFSA.

• You must be enrolled at least half-time in a degree-seeking program.

• You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (as defined by the federal government).

• You must certify that you do not owe a refund on any grant, are not in default on any student loan, and have not borrowed in excess of the loan limits under the Title IV programs, at any institution.

• You must be making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree. Students who demonstrate financial need may be eligible for an interest-free loan called the Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan.

Students who do not show demonstrated need may be eligible for an Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan. Generally, a graduate student may be eligible to borrow up to $20,500 per academic year, with no more than $8,500 of that amount in Subsided Federal Stafford Loans.

In addition to completing the financial aid application and FAFSA, new students must complete the following two steps.

Step One: Federal Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling

Step Two: Select a lender and complete the Master Promissory Note.

Step Three: Federal Stafford Loan Exit Counseling

*Please note that the lenders listed above are preferred lenders for Erskine Theological Seminary. If you prefer to use a different lender, please contact the lender for an application and notify the Financial Aid Office at (800) 770-6936.
