To apply for financial aid, students must complete the Erskine Seminary Financial Aid Application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Financial aid awards are not renewed automatically and may vary from year to year due to changes in a student's resources or expenses, increased overall demands on the financial aid budget, or changes in institutional or federal financial aid policy. Application materials are mailed to current students at the beginning of the spring semester for the upcoming academic year and are also available in the Admissions and Financial Aid Office. Erskine Theological Seminary's federal school code is E00177. You will need this code to complete your FAFSA. In order to complete the process in a timely manner, you are encouraged to submit your FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Students not in degree programs or who are pursuing less than a half-time course of study are not eligible for federal or institutional financial aid resources. Doctor of Ministry students may qualify for federal funds but are not eligible for institutional scholarship support.
Graduate Assistantships
Erskine Theological Seminary offers graduate assistantships during the academic year to qualified applicants until all positions are filled. Any student enrolled for at least 9 semester hours is eligible to apply for an assistantship. An Assistantship may be awarded for the entire academic year or for a single semester. Graduate assistants are paid for a specified number of hours of work per week and receive a tuition reduction according to seminary regulations. Retention of an assistantship is contingent upon the successful performance of assigned duties, satisfactory academic progress, and the needs of the seminary.
Institutional Scholarships
Scholarships awards are made possible through the generosity of loyal contributors to the seminary. The scholarships are awarded for the fall and spring semesters to students who meet the following requirements:
- Students must be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program.
- Students must show demonstrated need and the potential for church service.
- Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by their degree requirements.
Students awarded institutional scholarships must maintain full-time enrollment during the entire semester. Students who withdraw from the Seminary prior to the end of the semester or drop below the required enrollment will forfeit all scholarship awards.
Associate Reformed Presbyterian students who are under the care of a Presbytery or actively engaged in ministry in their home church are eligible for special denominationally-based financial assistance. Application forms are located in the Financial Aid Office.
Evangelical Presbyterian students are eligible to apply for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Matching Grant Program. Erskine Theological Seminary will match your church’s donation up to $1,250 per academic year. Application forms are located in the Financial Aid Office.
Presbyterian Church of America students who are enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program are eligible for a 25% tuition scholarship. Application forms are located In the Financial Aid Office.
The Calvin Thielman Seminary Scholarship is an annual merit-based scholarship awarded to a first-year or transfer Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) student. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in the Master of Divinity program. Application forms are located in the Financial Aid Office.
International Students
International students are eligible for institutional scholarships. Students admitted to the seminary on an F-1 Student Visa are not eligible for federal loans, and work opportunities are limited by the terms of their visa. International students may be eligible to apply for a graduate assistantship if they qualify for the position and have a social security number.
Military Tuition Assistance
Students serving on active duty orders in the military may be eligible for tuition assistance. To determine eligibility requirements, contact your local Education Center. Tuition assistance forms must be submitted to the Admissions and Financial Aid Office each semester prior to enrollment.
