The Erskine Lecture Series is only one of the many opportunities we offer in continuing education at Erskine Theological Seminary (CEU@ETS). In addition to taking the Erskine Lecture Series for continuing education credit, you may also take any of our Erskine Distance Education Network (EDEN) courses or you may attend a regular on-campus or off-campus seminary class. Erskine Seminary is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Continuing Education in Ministry (SACEM) and is duly authorized to award CEU credit within the guidelines established by this national organization and by our accreditors. Dr. Lima is an expert on the history of Protestant Christianity in Latin America. His unique perspective will enable the seminary community to broaden its understanding of mission efforts in our hemisphere.

Fall Missions Emphasis Week

Outreach North America (ONA) is the agency of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church charged with the responsibility for denominational programs of evangelism, multi-cultural ministries, renewal, and church development. Its purpose is to work with its presbyteries to introduce people to Jesus Christ. ONA’s board is charged by the General Synod of the ARP Church with planting and renewing churches in the United States and Canada.Dr. Alan Avera, Executive Director, and other representatives from ONA will be on campus for the entire week. All chapels will be conducted by one of the ONA representatives and will help us focus our attention on mission work in North America.

As the founders of Cooke Pictures, Phil and Kathleen Cooke have assembled a remarkable team of forward thinking media professionals that span every phase of traditional and emerging media. CNN’s Paula Zahn has called Phil the only working producer in Hollywood with a Ph.D. in Theology. Kathleen’s experience in front of the camera as a commercial actress, casting director, and interviewer bring balance to their media perspective. As producers and media strategists, Phil and Kathleen lead a team that advises many of the largest and most effective non-profit and faith-based social media organizations in the world. The Cooke’s enjoy educating others with the power of niche media and speak nationally and internationally at workshops, seminars, and conferences. Phil and Kathleen will guide us through the maze of Hollywood culture. They will use this opportunity to explore ways in which Christians can get the message of the gospel out to a culture saturated with Hollywood influence and how Christians can participate in the film industry with integrity.

Spring Missions Emphasis Week

World Witness is the Foreign Mission Board of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and ministries of mercy have been the focus of World Witness since 1859. This year, World Witness programs are active in Mexico, Pakistan, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Wales, and the Persian World as well as among internationals in the U.S. In addition, Cooperative Missionaries serve in Africa, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, and in Bible translation and international student ministries in the U.S. In response to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ, World Witness, has been entrusted with the administration of the international missions program of the ARP Church, primarily outside the geographical bounds of the United States. World Witness proclaims Jesus Christ as the only Savior and Lord through the means of evangelism, discipleship, church planting, theological education, and works of compassion to defined communities across geographical and cultural boundaries, resulting in committed Christians who are gathered into healthy, reproducing churches which are winsomely Reformed in doctrine and Presbyterian in structure.

Dr. Meek will address a topic central to her own research and writing, “Covenant Epistemology.” Dr. Meek holds a B.A. from Cedarville College, the M.A. from Western Kentucky University, and the Ph.D. from Temple University. Her published works include Longing to Know: The Philosophy of Knowledge for Ordinary People (Brazos, 2003), The Practices of a Healthy Church: Biblical Strategies for Vibrant Church Life and Ministry, Donald J. MacNair with Esther L. Meek, (P&R,1999), “A Polanyian Interpretation of Calvin’s Sensus Divinitatis,” (Presbyterion XXIII, 1997),“Embrace It Or Replace It? The Christian and Culture,” (Presbyterion XXIV:2,1998), and ‘Recalled to Life’: Contact with Reality,” (Tradition and Discovery XXVI, 1999-2000).

Dr. Walter Kaiser is an internationally recognized scholar, professor, administrator, and preacher. Among his most well-regarded works are Toward an Old Testament Theology (translated into five languages), Toward an Exegetical Theology: Biblical Exegesis for Teaching and Preaching, Toward Old Testament Ethics, An Introduction to Biblical Hermeneutics, Mission in the Old Testament: Israel as a Light to the Nations, and his most recent work which will form the basis of his preaching for us, The Majesty of God in the Old Testament: A Guide for Preaching and Teaching (Baker, 2007).
