              Lecture- “Overview of Luther and Lutheran Theology”
                      
              Lecture- “Historiography of Luther and Lutheranism

              Lecture Topics:  Luther’s Debates and Trials
                                          Life in Wittenberg
         
                 Reading Assignment for Monday, July 21
                 Luther’s : The Freedom of a Christian
                         (Also called:  A Treatise on Christian Liberty)
                  Writing Assignment:
                  Bring to class notes and observations from your reading
                
                  Note: We will discuss this treatise Monday in class

 Topics for week 2:  July 21-25       
                    - Luther, Zwingli and the Marburg Colloquy  
                    -Education, Universities and Reformation
                    -Philip Melanchthon and Luther’s circle
                    -Erasmus and the Debate over Free Will
                    -Luther and the Anabaptists
       NOTE:    Discussion of Brown book, Understanding Pietism

     Reading Assignment due, Monday July 28:
